Could you please introduce us to Sativa Rheinau?
Sativa Rheinau is an organic seed company that offers over 600 varieties of vegetables, herbs, flowers, green manures and more for commercial cultivation and home gardens. Another focus is our plant breeding programme. This develops new varieties that are specially adapted to the conditions of organic farming.
We are committed to an autonomous, independent and GMO-free seed supply in organic farming. This is particularly important in view of current issues such as the possible authorisation of new genetic engineering techniques.
Our seeds come from around 120 small and medium-sized organic farms in Switzerland and neighbouring countries. We supply customers in Switzerland and throughout the EU. Sativa was founded in 1998.
How long have you been working with RAJA and what packaging solutions does Sativa use?
We mainly purchase shipping packaging for our products. I counted it up and realised that we order ten different shipping boxes from RAJA. We also buy additional products such as adhesive tape, document envelopes and stretch film for pallets. We started working together back in November 2009, where we started with an order of boxes and transport trolleys.
Were there any special requirements for shipping?
Above all, we attach great importance to ensuring that our goods are particularly well protected.
Did you make a conscious decision in favour of sustainable packaging?
As we sell sustainable products, we pay attention to sustainability everywhere. First and foremost, the product must fulfil its purpose. However, if there is a more sustainable alternative that fulfils the function to the same extent, then we would always choose that option. For example, we successfully tested the stretch film with 80% recycled material and then opted for it.
How many parcels do you send per year?
We send around 30,000 parcels a year.
Why did you choose RAJA?
When I started, we were already working together. We did look at alternative suppliers, but the overall package was what convinced us most about RAJA. We particularly appreciate the quick delivery times. The wide range of products is also very valuable. If we need something new, we can always find a solution with you. And the customer service is also very good.
We sent young plants by post for the first time this year. We needed a box to ensure that the plants arrive undamaged to our customers. Together with RAJA, we developed a box specifically to achieve this and we received very positive feedback from our customers. Such experiences are extremely important for us.
Mr Weber, thank you very much for the interview!
